Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a procedure which involves the insertion of a needle the thickness of a hair into the skin. It is a safe procedure. Side effects may include slight bruising, minimal bleeding and the initial prick of the needle insertion. Most people describe this sensation as similar to the plucking of a hair. The depth, angle of insertion, needle length and diameter is dependent on the location of the point, what condition is being treated and the general constitution of the patient. Within the scope of acupuncture, other modalities may be used, including electro-acupuncture and moxabustion. Electro-acupuncture is the application of an electric current to the needles after they have been inserted. Moxabustion refers to the use of the herb Artesmia Vulgaris. This herb can be burned independent, near acupoints, or in conjunction with acupuncture needles.

Nicholas uses only presterilized, disposable needles. The needles he uses are of the highest quality manufactured in Germany and Japan. They are made of surgical grade stainless steel, or gold. These needles are used to uphold an uncompromised standard of patient safety and comfort.

Electro-acupuncture and moxabustion techniques are not applied to every patient. Electro-acupuncture is different than a Tens-electro device. A Tens device stays on the surface of the skin. Electro-acupuncture penetrates much deeper, using the needle as an assistant to stimulate more of the muscle, and uproot more pain. Nicholas uses the highest grade of moxa for his patients. Nicholas does not use manufactured cones or moxasticks. These products are typically manufactured from inferior herbs and contain harmful impurities. Nicholas produces his own handmade moxa cones and sticks.
